Red Oaks Rally Down the Stretch, Earn Home Playoff Game

The Raleigh Red Oaks are heading to the postseason.

Following the Old North State League All-Star break, the Red Oaks caught fire, finishing the regular season with an 8-5 record over their final 13 games to secure the No. 4 seed in the league standings. The strong finish capped off a resilient second half and earned Raleigh a home playoff game on Friday night against the Chatham County Yardbirds.

The late-season surge featured wins over Chatham County, Danville, Sanford, and Wake Forest, including thrilling one-run victories over Chatham (9-8), Sanford (8-7), and a season-ending 8-6 win over Danville. The Red Oaks finished 13-16 in divisional play, positioning themselves for a chance to continue their season in front of the home crowd.

The offense continued to produce throughout the stretch run. The Red Oaks scored eight or more runs in eight of their final 13 games, highlighted by an 18-run performance against Danville and an 11-run outing on the road against the Dairy Daddies. All-Star Jack McGeehan led the club with a .366 batting average, while Dominic Jones (.339, 5 HR, 25 RBI) and Adrian Gonzalez (.337, 6 HR, 22 RBI) powered one of the league's most dangerous middle-of-the-order combinations. Fellow All-Star Peyton Jones continued to spark the lineup from the leadoff spot, finishing the season with a .340 average.

The season has always been about more than wins and losses. The Red Oaks remain committed to providing elite collegiate players the opportunity to develop their game, compete against top competition, and pursue their dreams of playing professional baseball. That commitment was recognized this summer with three Old North State League All-Star selections: Peyton Jones, Jack McGeehan, and Will Sword.

Now, the focus shifts to postseason baseball.

The Red Oaks will host the Chatham County Yardbirds on Friday night in the opening round of the Old North State League playoffs. After battling through adversity all summer, the club enters the postseason playing its best baseball and looking to continue its late-season momentum in front of the home fans.
