Red Oaks Show Resilience, Firepower Through First 10 Games
Ten games into the 2026 season, the Raleigh Red Oaks have already demonstrated two things: they can score runs in bunches, and they know how to respond when adversity strikes.
The Red Oaks closed the opening stretch of the season with a 6-4 record (4-4 in ONSL play), powered by one of the league's most explosive offenses and a roster that continues to grow together with every game. While the season is still young, the first ten games have provided an exciting glimpse of what this team is capable of accomplishing this summer.
Raleigh burst out of the gates, winning its first three games while scoring 35 runs. The offense immediately established itself as a strength, combining patience, power, and depth throughout the lineup. Opposing pitchers struggled to find answers as the Red Oaks consistently put runners on base and capitalized on scoring opportunities.
Like every summer collegiate team, however, the Red Oaks faced early challenges. A four-game losing streak tested the club as it worked through the normal growing pains that come with bringing together players from different colleges and backgrounds. While the results were frustrating, the stretch proved valuable in helping the team identify roles, build chemistry, and gain experience in high-pressure situations.
The response was exactly what Head Coach Zach Joyner and his staff hoped to see.
Rather than letting the losing streak define the season, the Red Oaks answered with three consecutive victories to close the ten-game stretch. The offense erupted for 53 runs during those final three games, showcasing the lineup's ability to overwhelm opponents and reminding the league why Raleigh entered the season with high expectations.
Through ten games, the Red Oaks have scored an incredible 124 runs, averaging more than 12 runs per contest. The team owns a .336 batting average, .486 on-base percentage, and .980 OPS, numbers that place the offense among the most productive in the league.
Several players have emerged as key contributors during the season's opening weeks. Amare Burrus and Jack McGeehan have set the tone at the plate, both hitting above .430 while consistently reaching base and creating scoring opportunities. Dominic Jones has supplied much of the team's power production, launching four home runs and driving in 17 runs, while Adrian Gonzalez and Connor Payne have provided important run production throughout the lineup.
The depth of the offense has been one of the club's biggest strengths. On any given night, multiple players have been capable of carrying the attack, making the Red Oaks difficult to pitch against from top to bottom.
The pitching staff has also shown encouraging signs despite the high-scoring nature of several early-season games. Truitt Taylor has delivered quality innings while posting a 2.55 ERA, Tyler Smith has been effective in limited opportunities, and William Sword has emerged as a reliable contributor while leading the staff in strikeouts.
Beyond the statistics, perhaps the most encouraging development has been the team's resilience. The first ten games featured winning streaks, losing streaks, offensive shootouts, and close contests, yet the Red Oaks continued to improve and finished the stretch playing some of their best baseball of the season.
Off the field, the move to Wiley Warren Field has energized the organization and strengthened its connection to the Raleigh community. Fans have embraced Red Oaks baseball in downtown Raleigh, creating an atmosphere that reflects the club's vision of delivering a first-class summer baseball experience.
With the season still in its early stages, there is plenty of baseball left to be played. But after ten games, the Red Oaks have already shown they possess the offensive firepower, talent, and determination needed to compete throughout the summer.
If the first ten games are any indication, the best may still be ahead.
Great Baseball. Rooted in Raleigh.
