They're Hot! Red Oaks go 3-0 in Week 2

With a few cancellations due to weather, the Red Oaks played just three games in their second week of action. After being hot and cold last week, Raleigh settled in and climbed to the top of the division after going 3-0.

On the road vs the Flying Pigs Wednesday night, the Red Oaks fell behind early in the game, trailing 5-1 through two innings. They chipped away at the lead before finally capturing it in the sixth, and found a way to distance themselves late in the game to win 11-7. Adrian Gonzalez led the Red Oaks with three hits. Kieran Mederos closed out the final 1.2 innings allowing no hits, striking out two batters.

At Optimist Park on Saturday, the Red Oaks looked to string together two wins for the first time this season, as they took on the Sanford Spinners. It was a pitchers duel early, with the Spinners leading 2-0 at the halfway point in the game. But as the Red Oaks came to the plate in the next two bottom halves, they feasted — posting seven runs — while the pitching staff shut down the Spinners the rest of the game to win it 7-2. Matthew Vannoy led the RedOaks going 2-for-3 with a walk and 2 RBI.

Next was a rematch with the Flying Pigs on Sunday afternoon. Raleigh defeated Lexington 7-2 after a six spot in the fifth inning. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth as the heavens opened up and poured a quarter inch of rain on the untarped infield dirt. But enough innings had been played to award the Red Oaks the win — good enough for them to move into the top spot in the Piedmont division sitting at 5-3. Tyler Wright led the team going 3-for-4 with a double.

The Red Oaks are set to face the Dairy Daddies and the Hushpuppies to begin the third week of action.
